Target

IntroductionThis gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, and the encoded protein contains two ATP-binding domains and 12 transmembrane domains. ABC proteins transport a variety of molecules across the outer and inner membranes of cells. The ABC genes are grouped into seven distinct subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White. This gene is a member of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. The gene is linked end-to-end with another member of the subfamily on chromosome 16q12.1. Increased expression of this gene has been linked to breast cancer. [Provided by RefSeq, July 2008]
