Target

IntroductionVascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main growth factor of endothelial cells. This gene encodes one of two receptors for VEGF. This receptor, known as a kinase insertion domain receptor, is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase. It functions as a major mediator of VEGF-induced endothelial cell proliferation, survival, migration, tubular morphogenesis and sprouting. The signal transduction and trafficking of this receptor is regulated by many factors, including Rab GTPase, P2Y purine nucleotide receptor, integrin alphaVbeta3, T cell protein tyrosine phosphatase, etc. Mutations in this gene have been associated with infantile capillary hemangiomas.
