Target
Introduction | Ubiquitin-like modifiers are involved in autophagosome formation. Mediates autophagosome delivery to vacuoles through the microtubule cytoskeleton using ATG4. Selective autophagic degradation of the nucleus (nucleophagy) and required for mitophagy, which helps to regulate mitochondrial quantity and quality by eliminating mitochondria to basal levels to meet cellular energy demands and prevent excess ROS production. Also involved in membrane fusion events that occur in the early secretory pathway. It is also involved in the endoplasmic reticulum-specific autophagy process and is essential for the survival of cells subjected to severe ER stress. The ATG8-PE conjugate mediates tethering between adjacent membranes and stimulates membrane hemifusion, resulting in the expansion of the autophagosome membrane during autophagy. |
