Involved in carotenoid biosynthesis. Catalyzes the single epsilon-cyclization reaction which converts lycopene to delta-carotene and neurosporene to alpha-zeacarotene (PubMed:8837512, PubMed:11226339). Required for lutein biosynthesis (PubMed:9789087).
