Background

Metabolism is described as the complicated chemical reaction catalyzed by certain enzymes which enable organisms to convert various substances to energy in order to sustain life, and the metabolism antibodies are crucial for studying glucose, lipid, protein, and nucleotide metabolism. Metabolism can be conveniently divided into two categories: catabolism and anabolism (shown as Fig.1).

  • Zebrafish

Zebrafish possess all the key organs required for metabolic control in humans, such as the appetite circuits that are present in the hypothalamus, the pancreas, and insulin-sensitive tissues including muscle, liver, and white adipose tissue (WAT). Recently, research has discussed advanced progress in using zebrafish to model the interrelated conditions of metabolic syndrome, which include obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, and atherosclerosis. It is suggested that the unique tools provided by the zebrafish system will advance the understanding of metabolic disease onset and progression, and identify currently unknown targets for disease treatment.

  • Escherichia coli (E. coli)

In E. coli, glucose catabolite repression is regulated by the phosphotransferase system, a multi-protein phosphorylation cascade that couples glucose uptake and metabolism. However, catabolite repression has also been observed with sugar mixtures not involving glucose, and the growth of E. coli on mixtures of L-arabinose and D-xylose. In 2018, one study has shown that lactose-induced repression of L-arabinose and D-xylose gene expression is due to cAMP. In addition, the repression found is reciprocal, where both L-arabinose and D-xylose also repress the lactose gene expression, albeit to a lesser extent and also through a mechanism involving cAMP, which enhances our understanding of metabolism in E. coli. They also demonstrate that multiple mechanisms are involved in regulating the metabolism of sugar mixtures not involving glucose.
