A Popular Caspase-3 Gene Acts as an Improtant Role in SARS-CoV-2 and Zebrafish

Highlights

  • The evaluation of both the expression and serum protein levels of Caspase-3 gene in patients with different degrees of SARS-CoV2 infection
  • GP13, an Arthrospira platensis cysteine desulfurase-derived peptide, suppresses oxidative stress and reduces apoptosis in human leucocytes and zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryo via attenuated caspase-3 expression

Caspase 3 is part of the effect Caspase, which can trigger cell apoptosis and lyse various cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins (including PARP).

A study included a total of 41 individuals (male: 21; female: 20) with syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Hemograms and Caspase-3 (CASP3) gene expression levels were examined and detected from patient blood samples. To evaluate the effects of CASP3 gene expression and serum levels on preventing severe acute respiratory infection. The author finds CASP3 gene and/or its products have an important function to prevent the injury caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. They play crucial roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis and viability. The research in this article ”The evaluation of both the expression and serum protein levels of Caspase-3 gene in patients with different degrees of SARS-CoV2 infection” proposes newly developed methods for pathogenesis, which will guide the control of the epidemic in the future. Researcher at the Duzce University coordinators of scientific research projects, providing new clues for further improving anti-SARS-CoV-2 research.

The cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-3 could be biomarkers of tumorigenesis in OTSCC patients. The co-expression level of cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-3 may be a prognostic biomarker for OTSCC patients, especially in patients with certain tumor stages and cell differentiation states. In cell biology, caspase-3 antibodies can detect both uncleaved and cleaved versions of the enzyme, which are strong indicators of cell death induction. As we all know, apoptosis is mediated by caspase, which can be used to detect apoptosis activity.

Furthermore, in another article 'GP13, an Arthrospira platensis cysteine desulfurase-derived peptide, suppresses oxidative stress and reduces apoptosis in human leucocytes and zebrafish embryo via attenuated caspase-3 expression', GP13 inhibited the H2O2-induced caspase-3-dependent apoptotic response at 96 h post fertilized (hpf) zebrafish larvae. GP13 has a cytoprotective impact by scavenging free radicals and restoring normal intracellular antioxidant activity in a dose-dependent manner. This conclusion is verified by the following 3 analyses: 1) Bioinformatic analysis predicted a short peptide GP13 can have functional property. 2) Cell-free and Cell-based assays on leucocytes and Vero cells revealed the potential role of GP13 in the antioxidant system. 3) Pre-treated zebrafish embryo at 24-96 h showed no developmental toxicity and was found safer in in vivo model. GP13 was found to scavenge the H2O2-induced OS by regulating caspase-3 expression and increasing the antioxidant enzymes.
