Target

IntroductionCalcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase or CASK scaffolding protein is encoded by the gene CASK. CASK is a member of the MAGUK (membrane-associated guanylate kinase) protein family. CASK is a calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase. CASK is present in many different tissues, including kidney, lung, liver and brain. In the brain, CASK proteins are located at synapses. CASK acts as a multidomain scaffolding protein that functions in synaptic transmembrane protein anchoring and ion channel trafficking. Mutations in this gene are associated with FG syndrome 4, microcephaly with pontine and cerebellar hypoplasia, and an X-linked intellectual disability.
