| Introduction | This gene encodes the major catalytic subunit of ubiquinone succinate oxidoreductase, a complex of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This complex consists of four nuclear-encoded subunits and is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with a defect in the mitochondrial respiratory chain called Leigh syndrome. A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 3q29.
