Host speciesMouse (Mus musculus)
Species ReactivityHuman (Homo sapiens), Mouse (Mus musculus), Rat (Rattus norvegicus), Pig (Sus scrofa), Cattle (Bos taurus), Dog (Canis lupus familiaris), Chicken (Gallus gallus), Cat (Felis catus), Fish, Guinea Pig (Cavia porcellus), Hamster (Cricetulus griseus), Mammal, Primate, Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), Sheep (Ovis aries), Zebrafish (Danio rerio), Fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
SpecificityIn staining of chicken gizzard ultrathin tissue cryosections, the antibody labels the dense bodies and longitudinal channels linking consecutive dense bodies that are also occupied by desmin and the membrane-associated dense plaque. It does not stain adult cardiac and skeletal muscles except for traces due to contaminations of the sample with non-muscle cells, or if embryonic tissue is being used. The epitope recognized by the antibody is resistant to formalin-fixing and paraffin-embedding.
ImmunogenThis β-actin antibody (AC-15) was made into a slightly modified β-cytoplasmic actin N-terminal peptide, Ac-Asp-Asp-Asp-Ile-Ala-Ala-Leu-Val-Ile- Asp-Asn-Gly-Ser-Gly-Lys, conjugated with KLH.

IntroductionThis gene encodes one of six different actin proteins. Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in cell motility, structure, integrity, and intercellular signaling. The encoded protein is a major constituent of the contractile apparatus and one of the two nonmuscle cytoskeletal actins that are ubiquitously expressed. Mutations in this gene cause Baraitser-Winter syndrome 1, which is characterized by intellectual disability with a distinctive facial appearance in human patients. Numerous pseudogenes of this gene have been identified throughout the human genome. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]
