Target

IntroductionSuperoxide dismutase (SOD) is an endogenous intracellular enzyme found in almost all cells in the body (3). It acts by catalyzing the decomposition of superoxide free radical O2+ into O2 and H2O2, and then it is metabolized into H2O and O2 by catalase and glutathione peroxidase (2, 5). Generally, SOD plays a major role in the antioxidant defense mechanism (4). There are three types of SOD in mammalian cells. One form (SOD1) contains Cu and Zn ions as homodimers and is present in the cytoplasm. The two subunits of each 16 kDa are connected by two cysteines to form an intra-subunit disulfide bond (3). The second form (SOD2) is a manganese-containing enzyme located in the mitochondrial matrix. It is a homotetramer of 80 kDa. The third form (SOD3 or EC-SOD) is similar to SOD1 because it contains Cu and Zn ions, but it is a homotetramer with a mass of 30 kDA and only exists in the extracellular space (6 ). SOD3 can also be distinguished by its heparin binding ability.
Product OverviewMouse Anti-SOD (EC) (clone 4GG11G6) Antibody (MO-NAB-00039W) is a Mouse antibody against the epitope of the SOD (EC). It can be used for SOD (EC) detection in Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay.
