Target

IntroductionThe protein encoded by this gene is involved in the conversion of tyrosine to dopamine. It is the rate-limiting enzyme for catecholamine synthesis and thus plays a key role in the physiology of adrenergic neurons. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive Segawa syndrome. This gene has been noted to encode alternatively spliced transcript variants of different isoforms.
